It gives me great pleasure to welcome our distinguished guests to this great platform. Cyber Security is one of the most sought-after professions of the 21st century. The Department has grown significantly over the last two years since its creation. The most senior students are now in their 200 level. For the next decade, we aim at becoming one of the most innovative and vibrant departments in Nigeria. The focus of this programme is to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to gather, analyze, develop and present evidence gained from computer systems in a professional way. This degree would also help our graduates to understand the impact of cybercrime and events upon business and to be able to identify and implement specific security practices, features and techniques to enhance the security of computer based systems.

Brief History

The Department of CYBER SECURITY is one of the pioneer Departments in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FOCIT) of Osun State University, established on September 12th, 2022. The existing Department of Computer Science gave birth to four new Departments; out of which CYBER SECURITY is one of them.

The Department started with one Professor, two Senior Lecturers and one Lecturer II. But now, the Department has a Professor, one Associate Professor, one Senior Lecturer, Three Lecturer II with one Technologist. Sixty-two students registered as pioneer students of the Department during 2022/2023 academic session, which are now in their 200 level at the University. In the following academic session (2023/2024), 150 students registered within the Department. The total students' population in the Department currently stands at 212.

Mission

The mission of this Department is to create a unique unit committed to the pursuit of academic innovation, skill-based training, and a tradition of excellence in Teaching, Research, and Community Service.

Vision

To build capacity and develop human capital in the field of cybersecurity, and to safeguard business transactions as well as corporate assets nationally and globally. In other words, the cybersecurity programme is to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills required to protect people, computers, networks, programs, data and other critical infrastructure from attack, damage or unauthorized access.

Research Activities

Our ongoing research proposes to apply image processing techniques for early detection and diagnosis of COVID-19 cases across the country. This project aims at providing novel contributions by developing a new algorithm/model to address some of the problems in the existing technologies for COVID-19.

Physical Development

Our faculty building is currently under construction at the main campus of the university. The facility will house state-of-the-art cybersecurity labs, research centers, and collaborative workspaces.
