The Guidance and Counselling Unit, alongside the Educational Management Unit, was established in the Department of Arts and Social Science Education, College of Education, Osun State University. Both units commenced academic activities after successful resource verification during the 2014/2015 academic session.
The Guidance and Counselling programme offers B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling with options in Economics, English, Political Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. The programme started with six specialist academic staff, supported by adjunct and visiting lecturers from relevant departments.

Programme Philosophy
The philosophy of the B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling programme is rooted in the belief that an effective educational system must include a well-designed and professionally implemented guidance and counselling programme. Counselling provides professional assistance to individuals facing emotional, behavioural, vocational, educational, and psychosocial challenges.
The programme aims to produce competent counselling psychologists and behaviour change agents equipped with the skills to address the complex challenges of the 21st century. It focuses on the alleviation of human problems manifested as behaviour disorders, academic underachievement, career misfits, and various forms of maladjustment through clinical-practicum services, assessment, and management of educational, social, and behavioural issues.
Programme Objectives
The B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling programme is designed to achieve the following objectives
Train counselling psychologists with skills to enhance human relationships and coping abilities in everyday life.
Provide high-quality training that meets the guidelines of the National Policy on Education (NPE).
Produce professionally competent counsellors for schools, communities, and social welfare agencies.
Equip graduates with the ability to integrate theory and research into effective counselling practice.
Help reduce indiscipline, youth restiveness, examination malpractices, cultism, drug abuse, and other anti-social behaviours through effective counselling support.

Admission Requirements
Multiple entry pathways for qualified candidates into the B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling programme
Candidates must possess five (5) credit passes in SSCE/GCE including English Language and Mathematics plus three other relevant Arts, Social Science, or Science subjects in not more than two sittings. Acceptable UTME score and Post-UTME screening required.
Advanced Level passes in at least two relevant social science subjects, NCE with at least Lower Credit, or acceptable UNIOSUN Foundation Programme result. Minimum of five O'Level credits including English and Mathematics.
Minimum duration: 4 years for UTME candidates, 3 years for Direct Entry candidates. Students must complete and pass all prescribed courses, meet minimum CGPA requirement, and satisfy all Senate and NUC conditions for graduation.
