The philosophy of the B.Ed. Adult and Continuing Education programme is derived from the National Policy on Education which identified Nigeria's national development goals. Adult Education is poised to help Nigeria achieve those national development goals through inculcating relevant knowledge, skills and appropriate attitudes for the development of the individual, the community and the nation at large.

Adult Education is encompassing and multi-dimensional in nature, covering so many areas of specialization centered on Human Development. The Department of Adult Education took off as a programme in the Department of Arts and Social Science Education, after resource verification, during the 2022/23 Academic Session.

The programme started as a four-year Degree programme with options in seven (7) teaching subjects. The Department operates academic curricula tailored along the stipulations contained in the National Universities Commission (NUC) Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards.

Presently the Department runs an undergraduate programme — B.Ed. Adult and Continuing Education — committed to lifelong learning and community transformation.

UTME / 100 Level

Entry Requirements
  • 5 Credit passes in SSCE/GCE including English Language and Mathematics
  • Credit in three other relevant Arts, Social Science or Science subjects
  • Acceptable score in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
  • Must pass University Post-UTME Screening

Direct Entry / 200 Level

Entry Requirements
  • NCE with at least Lower Credit in relevant subjects
  • Advanced Level passes in 2 relevant subjects
  • Acceptable UNIOSUN Foundation Programme pass
  • 5 O'Level credits including English and Mathematics

Programme Duration

Minimum 4 years for UTME candidates
Minimum 3 years for Direct Entry candidates
Registration not to exceed additional 50% of duration

Registration Procedure

Complete registration at semester start. Course changes require coordinator consent. Late registration allowed with penalty up to 4 weeks.

Graduation Requirements

Complete and pass all prescribed courses, meet minimum CGPA requirement, and satisfy all University Senate conditions.
