Location

The College of Agriculture is situated in Ejigbo, a historic town strategically located along the border between Osun and Oyo States, at the Ejigbo Campus of Osun State University, Nigeria. Its location offers unique access to diverse agricultural communities and ecosystems, providing students with real-world learning and research opportunities in close proximity to farming communities, markets, and agribusiness enterprises.

Brief History

2006 Osun State University included the Bachelor of Agriculture (B. Agric.) programme in the academic brief submitted to the National Universities Commission (NUC) at the point of seeking approval for commencement of academic activities. The College of Agriculture was envisioned as one of the foundational Colleges that would drive the agricultural development agenda of Osun State.

2007 The University received its licence to operate as Nigeria's 80th University, and the College of Agriculture was formally established. The College admitted its pioneer students—23 in number—who commenced their 100-level courses at the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Main Campus, Osogbo, pending the development of permanent facilities at Ejigbo Campus.

2009-2015 The College experienced steady growth in student enrollment and academic staff strength. Physical infrastructure began to take shape at Ejigbo Campus, including farm structures, laboratories, and classroom blocks. The College established its Teaching and Research Farm, providing students with hands-on practical experience.

2021 In recognition of its growth and academic maturity, the College was bifurcated into two Faculties: the Faculty of Agricultural Production and Management, and the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources Management. This restructuring enhanced administrative efficiency and allowed for more focused academic development across seven academic departments.

Present Today, the College hosts nearly one thousand students and has established specialized research centres including the Centre for Apicultural Research, Centre for Agricultural Extension and Outreach Services (CAXOS), and the Centre for Agricultural Research, Training and Honey Production (CARTHOP), which produces the renowned UNIOSUN HONEY.

The College has designed its programme to ensure that graduates have excellent theoretical knowledge combined with practical, entrepreneurial skills. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on training, research, and community engagement, preparing students to become innovators and leaders in the agricultural sector. The programme has the intellectual goal of addressing food security challenges, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and driving rural development in Nigeria.
