A statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ademola Adesoji, disclosed that the ranking was based on the latest National scholarly assessment by SciVal, a globally recognised research intelligence and analytics tool developed by Elsevier. SciVal utilises data from Elsevier’s Scopus database to evaluate research performance, benchmark institutions against peers, identify collaboration opportunities, and track global research trends.
The ranking places UNIOSUN firmly among Nigeria’s most research-active and globally competitive Universities. Topping the list is Professor Charles Adetunji (S/N 1), a sabbatical staff member of Osun State University, whose exceptional research output, citation impact, and international collaborations earned him the highest recognition among Nigerian scholars in the latest assessment.
Other UNIOSUN scholars featured on the prestigious list include Dr. Juliana Adetunji (S/N 31) of the Department of Biochemistry; Professor Morufu Oyedunsi Olayiwola (S/N 292) of the Department of Mathematics; Dr. Adekunle Gregory Fakunle (S/N 372) of the Department of Public Health; Dr. Lukman Azeez (S/N 418) of the Department of Chemistry; and Dr. Saheed Adewinbi (S/N 424) of the Department of Physics.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, described the feat as a strong validation of the University’s sustained commitment to research excellence, innovation, and global relevance. He noted that having six scholars listed among the Top 500 nationwide, drawn from over 300 universities across Nigeria is a remarkable achievement that reflects the quality of teaching, research, and intellectual leadership at UNIOSUN.
“This achievement underscores the fact that academic scholarship is increasingly global and impact-driven,” the statement noted. “Osun State University continues to compete favourably on both National and interNational platforms, and we are immensely proud of our scholars for making the University visible, credible, and respected.”
The University congratulated the distinguished academics for flying the UNIOSUN flag high and reaffirmed its resolve to continue supporting cutting-edge research and innovation that contribute meaningfully to National development and the global body of knowledge.
