The Vice-Chancellor
The Vice-Chancellor is the executive and academic head of the University. He is the Chief exponent of the educational mission of the University and his office serves as the nerve centre of activities in areas of protocol, external relations and coordination of various internal organs. The Vice-Chancellor sees to the day-to-day administration of the University and sees that the goals of the University are met. He is responsible to the Governing Council for the management of the human, monetary and material resources of the University. The success of his job depends on his ability to lead, motivate and inspire administrative associates, academic and non-academic staff as well as students to work toward the central purpose of the University to advance learning and enhance talent.

The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University is Prof. Sola AKINRINADE, B. A. (Hons), M. A. (Ife), Ph.D (London), a Professor of History. Professor Sola Akinrinade assumed office as pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University in August 2007. He attended the University of Ife (1977-81, 1982-84) and the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London (1985-88). He holds the BA (First Class) and MA in History (Ife) and PhD. in International Relations (London). Professor Akinrinade joined the services of the Department of History, University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1982 as a Graduate Assistant.
He rose to the rank of Lecturer I in 1988, Senior Lecturer in 1992, Reader in 1997 and was promoted Professor of History (African Political History and International Relations) in 1999. A widely travelled scholar, he has held research fellowships at institutions in Nigeria, South Africa, United States and England, including at three of the foremost colleges of the University of London system (London School of Economics and Political Science, King's College, London system (London School of Studies (ICS, where he was Henry Charles Chapman Fellow). He has served, and currently serves on the editorial boards of leading international journals in his discipline, including the Journal of Contemporary African Studies, on which he has served since 2001. He is a member of several national and international professional associations.
Prof. Akinrinade has published widely and his publications include five books, Rethinking the Humanities in Africa (Ife, 2007), The Humanities, Nationalism and Democracy (Ife, 2006); Locating of Contemporary in the Global: Voices on a Globalised Nigeria (Ife 2004), Africa in the Post-Cold war International System (London and Washington: Cassell, 1998) and Economic Development in Africa (London and New York: Printer & Columbia University Press, 1987); three monographs and over sixty articles in learned international journals and chapters in books. Professor Akinrinade served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts (2003 – 2007), and Chairman of the Committee of Deans, (2006 – 2007) at the Obafemi Awolowo University. As Dean, he superintended over the revival of vigorous academic culture in the Faculty of Arts that included the organization of successful annual international conferences with attendance from Europe, North America, the Caribbean and other part of Africa.
A Consultant to several national and international non-governmental organizations and development agencies including United Nations agencies and international development foundations, Prof. Akinrinade remains an active researcher and has continued to publish widely.(Read his Profile).

Prof. Ganiyu Olatunji OLATUNDE, B.Sc. (Lagos), M.Sc., Ph.D (Ibadan)

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Osun State University is Prof. Ganiyu Olatunji OLATUNDE, B. Sc. (Lagos), M. Sc., Ph.D (Ibadan), a Professor of Entomology. He has a B. Sc. Degree Second Class Upper in Zoology of the University of Lagos and an M. Sc. in Agricultural Biology and PhD n Agriculture, both of the University of Ibadan. He was a Research Officer I at the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, Lagos and a Research Fellow of the International Institute for Tropical Research, Ibadan.
He joined the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) as a Lecturer II (Entomology) in 1989 and rose to the position of as Associate Professor before he was appointed a Professor of Entomology by the Osun State University in 2009. A well experienced University scholar, Prof. Olatunde was a congregational representative on Senate, Member of the UNAAB Governing Council, Ag. Head of Department of Crop Protection, Deputy Dean, College of Plant Science and Crop Production, UNAAB, Coordinator, SIWES, Osun State University, Senate Representative on the Governing Council of the Osun State University and the Director, Academic Planning of the University. He is presently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University.
Prof. Olatunde is an experienced Scholar in Applied Entomology, a member Entomological Society of Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Plant Protection and Agricultural Society of Nigeria. He has attended series of national and international training courses and conferences and has been actively involved in many professional development activities and research studies on problems of stored foods and cash crops, and pest control/fumigation services for companies and government parastatals.
