Labode POPOOLA
The families of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade on Friday, 20th November visited the Management of Osun State University with the plan of donating a befitting auditorium to the University in reminiscence of the late Oba who doubles as the first chancellor of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola while welcoming Engr. Femi Campbell and Arch. Adebayo Adesola who represented the Sijuade family, commended all members of the family for the thoughtful initiative and welcomed the development.
“Our first chancellor was considered the most influential monarch in the Yoruba kingdom that ruled over large areas and must be remembered for his worthy service and invaluable contributions to the sustenance of the cultural heritage of his people and the country at large. It is in view of this, that we welcome this great initiative from the Sijuade family and we hereby promise our full support towards this project,” Professor Popoola added.
Engr. Femi Campbell Lawal while responding started by appreciating the University management under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola for their hospitality and full support towards their proposal.
The team in conjunction with the University’s works department under the leadership of the Director, Engr. Ade Adepoju thereby commenced inspection of each of the University Campuses to ascertain a good topography for the project and later resolved to assign the vacant land along Oba Okunade Sijuade road on the main campus of the University for the proposed project with an agreement on the safety of the available trees on the vacant land.
