…initiates plans to use VC’s strategy as a guide to restructure tertiary institutions in Kwara State
The Commissioner for Tertiary education in Kwara state, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu has on Tuesday, 17th of November visited the management of Osun State University under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola to inspect the current realities in the institution and the standard practice of a state university so as to use as a guide for the transformation of the Kwara state’s tertiary education sector.
The management team under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola received the Commissioner and her entourage at the Council Chamber of the University and briefly introduced the university to them as a multi collegiate University that has campuses in all the geo-political zones of the state. He explained in detail the state of the University before his intervention and the current state of the University now, showcasing how the University generates its income and the implementation of projects in the University.
“I have the pleasure on behalf of the Council, Senate, Staff and Students of this University to welcome you to Osun State University, Nigeria. Our main campus is located here in Osogbo, the capital of the State of Osun, while our other campuses are located in five other towns (Ejigbo, Ifetedo, Ikire, Ipetu-Ijesa, and Okuku) spread across the six geopolitical zones of the State. Licensed on 21 December 2006, we opened our doors to full academic activities on 21 September, 2007 and we have continued to make steady progress in the development of facilities and human resources to match the growing needs of the institution.
At Osun State University, we are driven by our vision and desire to be a center of excellence providing high-quality teaching and learning experience, which will engender the production of entrepreneurial graduates capable of impacting their environment while being globally competitive. As an institution, we have committed ourselves to create a unique institution committed to the pursuit of academic innovation, skill-based training and a tradition of excellence in teaching, research and community service,” Professor Popoola added.
The Commissioner for Tertiary education in Kwara state, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu while responding to the Vice Chancellor’s remarks commended the Vice-Chancellor for his accountability and zero tolerance to corruption in the University.
“My team and I are really impressed with your leadership style and the infrastructural development that you have embarked on in this university. What we have seen so far here and your strategy of curbing corruption will be one of our take-home here today to use in building our own tertiary educations in Kwara state as well.
Also, with all the detailed description of your income and expenditure, I must commend you for accountability and your strategy of zero tolerance to corruption is really worthy of emulation,” Hajia Kawu added.
Among the entourage of the Commissioner are two directors in the ministry of Tertiary education, Alhaji Suleiman Obawakasi and Dr. A.D Oguntade
