Professor Akinrinade reiterates commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence

The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State, Professor Sola Akinrinade has reiterated the commitment of the University to the pursuit of academic excellence.

Professor Akinrinade made this known while addressing the participants to the 2011 African Studies Association of the UK (ASAUK) Writing Workshop for Young African Scholars which was held at the Osogbo Main Campus of the institution between 14th and 16th September, 2011.He suggested that the current bond between the institution and the editors should be further strengthened so as to engender future academic collaboration.

The Workshop was aimed at enhancing academic links between British and Nigerian universities; increasing the representation in British journals of work by scholars based in Nigeria, and; bringing together Nigeria and UK-based journal editors to discuss shared interests and problems, and to explore possibilities for future co-operation.

Thirty seven (37) Nigerian scholars drawn from 23 Nigerian universities attended the Workshop.  Also in attendance were editors of three leading Africanist journals based in the UK namely, Africa:Journal of the International African Institute (represented by Prof. Karin Barber, Dr. Paulo Farias and Dr. Insa Nolte, all of University of Birmingham), Journal of Modern African Studies (represented by Prof. Chris Clapham, University of Cambridge and Dr. David Pratten, University of Oxford), and Review of African Political Economy (represented by Dr. Miles Larmer, University of Sheffield).
